Update: Change of editorship
Hello, welcome back to Asia Undercovered. The newsletter was in a long hiatus while then it changed the editorship from the founder Nithin Coca to South Korean independent journalist Seulki Lee, me.
I'm taking over what Nithin had been doing to shed light on Asia on the ground which did not get fair attention from global media houses. I will continue to report and share stories of Asia of their political struggle and developments from labor rights, human rights, gender equality to climate and developmental justice.
Here’s the letter to our subscribers from Nithin on his departure.
After three years, my focus as a journalist has shifted from covering the region as a whole, towards more long-form, in-depth projects. That, unfortunately, has meant I no longer have as much time for the newsletter, and was the reason I put in hiatus.
But I have some good news - Seuli Lee, a South Korean freelance journalist, will be taking over Asia Undercovered. I’ve known Seulki for several years, we actually met in Jakarta back in 2019. As a journalist, she shares many of the same goals as me - illuminating stories from remote regions, highlighting local voices, and giving attention to under-represented communities across Asia. She has worked across Asia, including places like Indonesian-administered Papua, Timor-Leste, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and India’s Northeast and Indian-administered Kashmir, where I myself have not spent much time.
I look forward to seeing how Seulki will take the newsletter in a new direction, with her own ideas, approach, but fully trust that she will continue to shed light on the Asian trends, people, and stories not getting enough global attention.

Global Journalist
I have prepared a special first edition on South Korea, my home country, about the recent political turmoil and its meaning in the Asian context.
Asia Undercovered will keep the same handle to inherit Nithin's vision of covering Asia's untold original stories. It will be published bi-weekly, every other Wednesday.
Thank you.
