COVID-19 & Asia Undercovered
Dear Subscribers,
With everything that has taken place over the last few weeks, you probably haven’t noticed that I haven’t sent out Asia Undercovered this month. The reason is what you would expect - I’ve been overwhelmed due to COVID-19, which has gone from an Asian epidemic to a global pandemic.
I am safe and sound in Japan, one of the few countries not under lockdown, but had to cancel several travel plans. I’ll be here for the foreseeable future.
First, the good news. Asia Undercovered will be back next week.
One thing you won’t fine in Asia Undercovered from now on, though, is COVID-19.
That’s not because keeping up with the latest information on public health responses is not important - it is. Here are the outlets I believe are doing a good job of providing fact-based information that benefits public health and reader understanding of the crisis. I recommend bookmarking and going to them if you want to keep up with what is happening globally.
And some country specific resources
- MalaysiaKini - Malaysia
- Japan Times - Japan
- Taiwan Center for Disease Control (because they were right.)
The reason I’ll be focusing on non-pandemic news is because, with this crisis having arrived in the west alongside the coming US election, there’s even less space for Asia in the news, despite the fact that there are plenty of important stories that deserve attention. Plus, I imagine that readers will appreciate an opportunity to read stories that are not about the virus.
For now, take care. I hope that wherever you are, you are well, safe, and well-informed.
Until next week,
Nithin Coca
